Bespoke's headquarters in New York City offers access to top tutors, our child psychologist who works closely with our tutors and students and also does testing for accommodations on tests, middle- and high-school placement advising, college counseling, and mock testing. We offer highly-personalized, small-group classes at this office located in the heart of Manhattan, just steps from Grand Central Station. While growing up in New York City, Tim attended The Horace Mann School for fifteen years. After graduating from Yale College, he taught at a boarding school in Massachusetts and then at The Fieldston School in the Bronx. Prior to founding Bespoke Education, he worked in the corporate offices of Kaplan Test Prep helping to train teachers and write course curricula. He is the author of Kaplan's GRE Biology retail book, and he has been an adjunct professor in the Math and Science Departments of both SUNY's Fashion Institute of Technology and Columbia University's Teachers College. Tim also holds a Masters Degree in Education from Teachers College. For nearly twenty years, he has tutored in a variety of subject areas and for nearly every standardized test offered.
Chip is a graduate of The Fieldston School and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Design & Technology from Parsons School of Design. Chip is a highly-skilled web designer and database developer, who has built from scratch a multi-layered database customized for Bespoke that allows us to interact with parents, students, and tutors in an unprecedented manner. Student progress on mock tests and throughout all tutoring sessions is tracked so that Bespoke can give students a personalized experience that is second-to-none. Chip is the creative force behind Bespoke's ability to communicate via the internet with our clients and staff, and he is constantly adding to Bespoke's technological capabilities.
Crystal is a graduate of the Macaulay Honors College of The City University of New York where she earned a B.A. in Psychology. She has spent nearly ten years in the field of Human Resources, working for educational companies including Schoolnet, Inc. and Pearson Education on initiatives ranging from recruitment and selection, training and development, employee relations, change management and strategic corporate communications. She is currently pursuing a M.S. in Industrial & Labor Relations from Baruch College’s Zicklin School of Business. Aside from HR, Crystal has spent several years in assessment operations for Prometric, a subsidiary of Educational Testing Services (ETS), and is a former Literacy/Writing Coach and Job Readiness Instructor for K-12 and college students. Crystal manages Bespoke’s Irvington, NY office and all HR & Operations functions for Bespoke.
Ingrid earned her B.A. in English Language and Literature from the University of Chicago. For nearly twenty years, she has worked in New York City as a tutor, teacher, curriculum developer, and educational writer. She has taught and tutored in subjects ranging from English (reading, grammar, and essay writing skills) to math, biology, chemistry, and earth science. Ingrid has also helped prepare students for the SHSAT, ISEE, SAT I, SAT II, ACT, and almost every graduate school entrance exam. She has created course materials for all these tests, as well as for state-based tests administered to students in grades 3 to 11. Ingrid is the author of Kaplan's GMAT Verbal Workbook and coauthor of five other retail books for Kaplan. Aside from test preparation materials, Ingrid has also written a popular science book on fertility preservation and a fifth grade reader on superconductors and fiber optics.
Elan grew up in New York, where he attended The Fieldston School and graduated from Stuyvesant High School. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Northwestern University, with a specialization in Genetics and Molecular Biology. During his college years, he did extensive laboratory work in physiology and endocrinology. Elan has tutored in and studied Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math, and Engineering, and he is one of our resident SAT I, ACT, Biology SAT II, SHSAT, SSAT, and ISEE experts. Elan works full-time in our midtown Manhattan office, analyzing standardized tests and developing our test prep curriculum.
Ali graduated from Yale University magna cum laude with a degree in History, and received her M.F.A. from California Institute of the Arts. She has years of teaching and tutoring experience, ranging from voice and speech training to working with children with autism. A Los Angeles native, Ali created the SAT curriculum for Los Angeles City College's (LACC) extension program in Koreatown. In addition to her work at LACC, she has taught classes at Prep for Prep in New York and at California Institute of the Arts. Ali has also taught study and organizational skills to students with learning disabilities and has tutored students from elementary school to college for the SAT, ACT, ISEE, and SSAT exams, and in English, Writing, History, and Spanish.
Rachel grew up in New York and attended the Fieldston School. She graduated summa cum laude and with honors in American History from the University of Pennsylvania, and then spent two years at Columbia University studying the premedical sciences. In lieu of medical school, Rachel pursued her other passion: food journalism. For a year and a half she worked as the founding editor of the quarterly food magazine Edible New Orleans, and has returned to New York to pursue a Masters Degree in journalism in the esteemed Cultural Reporting and Criticism program at NYU. She has been a Bespoke tutor for many years and specializes in SAT/ACT, ISEE/SSAT, Biology, Spanish, Writing, and homework help/study skills.
Ben received his B.A. in English from Princeton University, where he was awarded the Alan Downer Thesis Prize for his senior independent work on James Joyce and Tom Stoppard, as well as the Director’s Prize for his outstanding contributions to Princeton’s theater community. He was valedictorian of his class at Rockbridge County High School, and was honored with a Writer’s Eye Award from the University of Virginia and a Scholastic Writing Award at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. As an actor, Ben has performed in classical, contemporary and experimental theater throughout New York and in Canada, France and Austria. Ben helps students with organizational work and study skills. Ben also tutors in English, history, and math, and prepares students for a variety of standardized tests, including all sections of the SAT, ACT and GRE, as well as the SSAT, SHSAT and ISEE tests.
A lifetime New Yorker, Emily attended The Fieldston School and Hunter College High School, and graduated from Stuyvesant High School with honors in English and Physics. She earned her B.A. with honors in Literature and Visual/Environmental Studies from Harvard University, where she won the David McCord Prize for Excellence in the Arts. She is currently an MFA candidate at the Graduate Film Program at NYU Tisch, and her short films have screened at Sundance, the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), IFC and Rooftop Films, among other places. Emily teaches math, English, science, study skills, and even cartooning and Photoshop to middle and high school students as well as adults. Emily is also an accomplished tutor for the SAT, ACT, ISEE, SHSAT, SSAT and many SAT2 exams.
A graduate of Horace Mann, Steph is an Irvington native who holds a BA in mathematics from Columbia University. She was a teaching assistant in the Columbia mathematics department and has tutored all levels of middle and high school math. Steph's teaching methods focus on helping students "learn how to learn" and can be applied to any area of life. In addition to math, Steph tutors physics, Chinese, and for many standardized exams: ISEE/SSAT, PSAT, SAT/ACT, NYS Regents in math and physics, and AP Calculus. She also teaches saxophone, piano, and general musicianship. A jazz saxophone and piano player, she frequently relates playing music to learning math. She recently released her first full-length CD and performs regularly around New York. Currently, she works as an administrative assistant at PEBernsGlobal, a corporate coaching company, and at Patrick Zimmerli Music.
Born in Argentina, Andrés holds a B.A. with dual majors in Psychology and Economics from Cornell University and an M.S. in Education (with a math specialization) from Brooklyn College. An aspiring author, Andrés is currently enrolled in the creative writing M.F.A. program at The New School. Through the New York City Teaching Fellows Program, Andrés taught public high school for five years and has served as an advisor for the National Honor Society. He has years of private tutoring experience in math, English, organizational and study skills, and test prep (SAT, ISEE, SSAT, SHSAT and NYS Math Regents).
Sally holds a Bachelors degree from Harvard University (English & American Literature) and an M.F.A. from Columbia University (Writing). She has taught English and writing at The Chapin School, The City University of New York (CUNY), and elsewhere; she worked with college applicants through programs at The City College and New York University. Her long experience as a writer/editor includes two years as speechwriter to the University Dean for Academic Affairs and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at CUNY. Her creative writing has been published widely; her honors include a literature fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. Sally tutors in essay, application, and creative writing as well as in English: literature, grammar, and composition.
Emeline grew up in Bordeaux, France, and completed her studies in Paris. She received a Masters in Political Science from l’École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales. She then worked in the French Assemblee Nationale as well as for a Regional Counselor of Ile-de-France. Emeline tutors conversational and written French as well as the French SAT2.
Robert holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in history, a Masters in Education from Columbia University Teachers College, and an Ed.D. in counseling psychology from Columbia University. Robert is a talented, long-time educator and administrator: the former head of the History Department and Director of Academic Affairs at Riverdale Country School, where he taught for over twenty years and was a member of the faculty team that created Introduction to Liberal Studies (ILS); Upper School Principal at Ranney School; Education Director of The Huntington Learning Center New York City; and, Curriculum Coordinator at Brooklyn Friends School. Robert has worked with students from a diversity of backgrounds and tutors in a wide variety of areas including writing, AP History (US, European, and World), SAT I and II (History) and ACT exams.
Brett grew up in Massachusetts and went to Dover-Sherborn High School. He holds a BS in Engineering from Dartmouth College and a BA in Biochemistry from Colby College, where he was Magna Cum Laude and participated on the college ski team. He works as a researcher for a Westchester-based biotechnology company. Brett is an experienced tutor for the IB program and for the ACT, SAT, and ISEE/SSAT exams. Brett also tutors chemistry, biology, physics, math, and for SAT 2 and AP exams in those subject areas.
Erika holds a B.A. with high honors in Astronomy and Astrophysics from Harvard College and both an M.A. and M. Phil. in Astrophysics from Columbia University. While at Harvard, she played field hockey and started a Wine Tasting Society for fellow students. After graduating, she moved to London to attend Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School and earned a degree in Basic French Cuisine. She then worked as a sous-chef in a highly acclaimed modern French restaurant in New Jersey. Erika is currently a graduate student at Columbia University, working towards a PhD in Astrophysics, doing research in galaxy formation and UV telescope design. Erika tutors in all areas of science and math, for the SAT and ACT, and for the math and science SAT 2 exams.
Luke attended Vanderbilt University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, earning his B.A., summa cum laude and with honors, in Theatrical Studies and Human and Organizational Development. As an undergraduate, he tutored English, writing, mathematics, and science to middle and high school students. After graduation, Luke was awarded the prestigious SDC National Directing Award and spent two years touring around the country to college campuses, teaching performance and creative writing. As a stage director, his work has been seen throughout the United States, Canada, England, Italy, and Spain. Luke tutors in all areas of English and writing, and for the SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT, SHSAT, SAT 2 and AP exams.
Tom attended Phillips Academy, Andover and earned his B.A. in English with a minor in mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania. He has taught ESL abroad, has led outdoor wilderness trips for children of all ages, and is an experienced teacher of 10th through 12th grade English. Tom holds a Masters Degree in English Education from Columbia University Teachers College and tutors for the ISEE, SSAT, SHSAT, ACT, SAT, and English AP exams as well as in English and math. Tom currently teaches AP English at a charter school in Harlem.
Kara grew up near Seattle and graduated from Brigham Young University with a BFA in Music-Dance-Theatre and a minor in Mathematics. In high school, she earned a National Merit Scholarship and won The National Superbowl of High School Calculus. As a musical theater performer, Kara has toured and taught workshops to children of all ages in the Pacific Northwest, Rocky Mountain region, China, Hong Kong, Mexico and the Caribbean Islands. Kara currently appears off-Broadway as "Angelina" in Angelina Ballerina the Musical. Kara has tutored for years in all levels of mathematics, provides homework help, and prepares students for all sections of the ISEE, SSAT, SAT, ACT and SAT2 Math exams.
"Eli" grew up in the Bronx and holds both a BS degree and a Master of Science degree from Iona College. He has taught high school science for over ten years and has been a full-time teacher at Irvington High School for five years, teaching introductory and Advanced Placement chemistry. Eli also holds a NYS certification in the teaching of biology and is an enthusiastic and talented science tutor.
Ken was born and raised in New York City and was graduated with honors from Cornell Engineering with a BS in Operations Research. He has earned Masters degrees in Computer Science from Pratt Institute and in Mathematics from the Courant Institute at NYU. For the past decade, he has taught all levels of high school math in New York City schools including at Fordham Prep, where he began their Advanced Placement Statistics program. Ken was a 2008 recipient of The New Times "Teachers Who Make a Difference" award. Ken currently works at Teaching Matters, providing professional development services to math teachers and helping them integrate laptops and software into their instruction. He tutors in all levels of math and for the Math SAT 2 exams.
Carroll was educated at St. Bernard’s School in New York City, Portsmouth Priory in Rhode Island, and Harvard College. He earned his Ph.D. in Classics at Yale University. Carroll has taught at Yale, Princeton, and Duke. He has been a freelance writer and editor in educational publishing for over three decades and is the author of numerous books and articles. Carroll tutors in English, French, Latin, and history, as well as for the SAT, ACT, many SAT 2s, and all sections of the ISEE and SSAT exams.
Marianne earned her Bachelors of Science in Foreign Service at Georgetown University and her Masters in Peace and Conflict Studies at the European Peace University in Austria. She runs trainings in peacebuilding, facilitates dialogues and campaigns for violence reduction. Her tutoring specialties include French language and literature, Spanish language, economics, government, history (American, European, World), writing, research and study skills. She prepares students for SAT2s and APs in the above subjects in addition to SAT, ACT, SSAT/ISEE, and the TOEFL. Marianne also is the Director of Bespoke's Home Schooling program.
Paul is an original co-author of the bestselling SAT prep guide Up Your Score: An Underground Guide to the S.A.T. He holds a BA with honors in history, French literature, and English from Cornell University's College of Arts & Sciences, and an MA in Educational Psychology from Hunter College. As a technical manager for HBO, he led a team of website developers writing site content and code for such shows as The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, and Deadwood. Recently, he has worked as a website designer, high school teacher, and private consultant revising admissions essays for college applicants. Paul tutors the SAT, ACT, SAT 2, ISEE, SSAT, SHSAT, GRE and GMAT exams, as well as for general studies in French, Writing, and Math.
Ken holds a BA in economics from Columbia University and recently earned his MD degree from Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. A native New Yorker, he has many years of experience tutoring students for the SAT I, ACT, MCAT, SAT II, ISEE/SSAT, SHSAT and Hunter HS exams. Ken has also worked with students to craft personal statements and admissions essays. Ken is a nationally ranked scrabble player and expert test taker who has achieved top scores on numerous standardized tests, including 99th percentile on the SAT, GRE and GMAT. He tutors in all levels of math and science and for nearly every standardized test offered.
Graham holds a B.A. Honors in Physics from Harvard College, an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics, and is currently working on his PhD in English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University this fall. He is a New York native and attended Stuyvesant High School. Graham has worked as a management consultant for both American Express and Morgan Stanley and as a professional actor on Broadway. He scored in the 99th percentile on the GMAT and GRE exams and tutors physics, economics, statistics, and mathematics to any level in addition to the GMAT, GRE, SAT I, ACT, and SAT II exams.
Munier received his B.S. from the Department of Applied & Engineering Physics at Cornell University. He is currently a graduate student at Columbia University in the Astronomy Department’s doctoral program, where he has is studying galaxy simulations for his Ph.D. He volunteers at public astronomy outreach events and volunteers with high school and middle school students in the Bronx. Munier spends his free time experimenting with web design and reading about city planning. He tutors students in all levels of math and physics, and for the SAT II subjects tests in math and physics.
Paul is the Manager and Asst. Research Scientist of the Genomics Core Laboratory at the Center for Genomics and Systems Biology at NYU. His lab designs, executes and analyzes large-scale genomics experiments. Paul has also conducted research in stem-cell biology, cardiology, neurobiology, and hematology/oncology; he is a co-author on multiple publications in high-impact journals, including Science and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Paul is one of our Biology SAT 2 experts. He also teaches chemistry and all levels of math through calculus and tutors for the SAT, ACT, and ISEE/SSAT exams. Paul is a graduate of NYU.
Matthew grew up in Westchester and attended New Rochelle High School. He graduated with a B.S. in Biology from the University of Miami with a minor in Chemistry. While at Miami, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and played club roller hockey. He is currently involved in endocrine cancer research at Weill Cornell Medical Center. Matthew is a long time camp counselor at Camp Greylock where he has mentored and instructed children of all ages. He tutors in biology, chemistry, and mathematics, including SAT2 and AP exams in those subjects, and helps students with homework and organizational skills.
A native of Massachusetts, Josh attended Yale University, where he graduated cum laude with a BA in History and English Literature. He also holds a Ph.D. degree from UCLA in United States History; his dissertation focused on New York City, specifically violence and criminal justice. Josh has prepared students for a variety of tests, first with Kaplan Test Prep and now with Bespoke. He has taught history courses at the New School for Social Research and UCLA. He is now a student at Yale Law School. Josh specializes in the LSAT, GRE, ACT and SAT, as well subject tests in English, Writing, Math Level 1 and 2, and History.
Nick grew up in Minneapolis and studied math, science and music at the University of Minnesota. He completed his B.M. at New England Conservatory in Boston, graduating with distinction. Nick has been teaching and tutoring for over ten years and has taught SAT and ACT prep classes for a variety of test prep companies in New York area high schools. He is also a jazz saxophonist and performs regularly in New York. Nick tutors for a variety of tests including the SAT, ACT, SSAT, SHSAT, and ISEE. He also tutors math and music and has experience working with home-schooled students in middle and high school.
Nicole received her BA in History from Yale and her MA in history and dramatic writing from NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study. Nicole has taught history at Fieldston, the Cathedral School, and Prep for Prep and has worked as a theatre artist and educator at the New York Historical Society, Tisch School of the Arts, the Lincoln Center Institute for Arts and Education, the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, and the Tribeca Film Institute. Nicole currently teaches an interdisciplinary arts/history course at the Museum of the City of New York, where she also leads professional development workshops on arts education curriculum development and is the Shakespeare director at the 52nd Street Project. Nicole tutors students in English, history, and for a variety of standardized tests including the ISEE, SSAT, and SHSAT in both math and verbal.
