Many of our tutors grew up in New York and took either Regents or AP exams themselves. Their expertise on these important exams comes from their test prep backgrounds, their undergraduate and graduate coursework, and often classroom teaching experience.
In New York State, the Regents examinations are statewide standardized examinations in core high school subjects required for a Regents Diploma. Regents diplomas are optional but are offered for and encouraged for college bound public school students. To graduate, public school students are required to have earned appropriate credits in a number of specific subjects by passing year-long or half-year courses, after which they must pass Regents examinations in some of the subject areas. For higher achieving students, a Regents with Advanced designation, and an Honor designation, are also offered. Bespoke does most of our Regents preparation for students taking 9th-11th grade math and science courses.
The AP (Advanced Placement) exams are offered by the College Board, which also creates the PSAT and SAT exams, and are generally taken as part of a year-long course at school that follows a prescribed curriculum set forth by the College Board. The idea behind the exams is to offer top students the chance to take college-level classes in a variety of subject areas in order to demonstrate advanced proficiency as well as gain college credit or the ability to advance to higher-level courses once they reach college. Any student can sit for an AP exam, even if they have not followed an AP curriculum at school. Bespoke’s tutors know the AP curricula and exams well – and we’ll pair you with an expert who really knows the exam and can teach you the content and strategies you need to know.
